Co-Equal Utah’s work is proudly nonpartisan and grounded in the principles of the U.S. and Utah Constitutions—namely, the separation of powers. This constitutional framework depends on three independent, co-equal branches of government, each with distinct responsibilities and checks on the others, to preserve the rule of law and prevent the concentration of power.
While no single effort can address every challenge facing the judiciary, we are confident that sustained, strategic, and principled advocacy can make a meaningful difference over time.
“[T]he courts were designed to be an intermediate body between the people and the legislature, in order, among other things, to keep the latter within the limits assigned to their authority.”
— Alexander Hamilton, Federalist 78
